Reader's Articles.

All the New year parties are over, the rain is lashing down outside, there is only rubbish on the telly and the sailing magazine took all of 45 minutes to read so what to do now? I searched the web and read several fascinating websites set up by other sailors and slowly it dawned on me that setting up my own website would fulfil several goals.

Ever since my one Atlantic crossing I’ve kept a journal but things started to get more serious when Compromis came on the scene. Haven Ports Yacht Club asked for articles for its magazine so I sent in some from our first season in the Mediterranean but several evenings were spent rewriting them before they were sent off. Setting up my own website would not only provide a focus for the writing but further stimulus to improve.

Each week Liz and I go to the gym in order to keep the body from atrophying and the older I get the more it becomes clear that the brain needs exercise as well. We could write our letters in “Word”, we could send and receive e-mails with or without attachments and we always booked our Easyjet tickets online but setting up yachtcompromis.co.uk would send the neurons into a right spin.

To adapt the BBC’S motto “Sailors shall speak to sailors”. I love sailing and reading about sailing.  There must be scores of other people with stories to tell that would fill the dark winter nights so why shouldn’t they get the chance on my website. If you have a tale to tell why not send it to me at rudi@yachtcompromis.co.uk along with a few photographs and I’ll see what can be done.

Any article needs to be a word document and photos need to be a JPEG file.
